MOFA thanks European Parliament for adopting resolution on future EU-US relations
The European Parliament’s (EP) resolution on the future of EU-US relations, which contains support for Taiwan, is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, October 7. Passed with an overwhelming majority of 550 to 83 votes, with 55 abstentions, the report highlights the need for the EU to explore areas of possible cooperation with the U.S. on China, particularly with regard to, among other things, the de-escalation of tensions across the Taiwan Strait. Likewise, the report also specifies Taiwan as one of a number of democratic friends and partners for the EU in the Indo-Pacific. The Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium also thanked the EP for the resolution's passage, as well as for the approval of another report on the state of EU cyber defence capabilities, which similarly calls for the development of closer ties with Taiwan on countering cyber threats.
