Germany earmarks additional €2.4bn this year for Ukraine refugee relief

After they boarded a train from Warsaw in Poland to Berlin's Hauptbahnhof central railway station, refugees from Ukraine walk on a platform. This was during Russia's invasion and occupation of Ukraine. It happened on 29 March, 2022.

Germany has allocated an additional €2.4 billion ($2.40bn) to pay for the costs of care for Ukrainian refugees, Hubertus Heil, the Labour Minister, was quoted by RND newspaper group.

Heil stated that around 800,000.00 people from Ukraine have fled to Germany for refuge so far. 30% of them are younger than 14.

Germany's Labour Office reported last month that unemployment is rising as more people from Ukraine register with the office to find work.

Heil stated that 360,000 Ukrainians are registered with Germany's welfare system, and 260,000 of them are job-seekers.

He said, "It's now a matter putting these to work."

The UN Refugee Agency reported Wednesday (13 July) that more than 9 million people crossed the Ukrainian border since Russia invaded.
