fathi20120328043428590I would like to inform you on the latest updates regarding Turkey. I am writing to you on the assumption that your news agency has not covered the latest.  As you know our PM has banned Twitter in order to halt all communications, leaks and comments prior to the upcoming municipal elections.

There is now a rumor that he plans to shut down the internet as of tomorrow (25 March).  Reason for this frenzied decision may be because certain film footage is said to be released via twitter and the net which will supposedly end his political career.  This could be just an idle threat but, if you have been following current events here, tapes of alleged telephone conversations between various ministers and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (pictured) have been leaked these past weeks with regards to bribes and the Iranian scandal, which have been spread through the public via Twitter and Facebook. If the rumours are true and the internet is halted tonight or tomorrow, it will be proven to the world that the democratic system in Turkey no longer exists and that we are being held hostage by a dictator.

Also, as a final comment, I am dismayed to say that most of the foreign press agencies such as CNN Turkey are also among many news sources that are being held hostage by the current regime and, due to censorship of information, the majority of the Turkish public is forced to get news from the internet. Following the ordeal of Gezi Park, many of our youths are imprisoned and awaiting sentencing. The recent death of a young protestor has escalated the outrage among the general public, due to him being labeled as a terrorist by the PM during one of his speeches. He was 16 years old. Now, in order to delay or impede the upcoming elections on 30 March, the Turkish government has brought down a Syrian plane, claiming that it entered Turkish airways, which is now being disputed by other sources.

This attack is just another frenzied strategy that the government is applying, which shows that there may be truth to the various allegations now on the web. These current updates are also not recognized by the foreign press, which opens the question of how deep the conspiracy theories may go.
