The European Council meeting today (25 March) started its discussions with its traditional exchange of the views with the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. The main focus of discussions was the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sassoli said that he told the leaders that European citizens need to feel trust in the EU’s response and to see the leaders sticking together. He said: “Contracts have been signed and failure to comply mean sanctions will be necessary.”
He said that the European Union through its institutions, had tremendous responsibilities.
