The Commission has approved the addition of ‘Pregler'/‘Osttiroler Pregler' from Austria in the register of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). ‘Pregler'/‘Osttiroler Pregler' is a spirit drink, produced in the district of Lienz, in East Tyrol, from apples and pears from the region. It has a characteristic fragrant floral bouquet and a full fruity taste. As a result of the regional climate in the district of Lienz, with the particularly marked differences between daytime and night-time temperatures during the apple and pear ripening season, the influence of the soil and the more than 100 year-old cultivation tradition, the quality of the apples and pears contributes significantly to the particular characteristics of ‘Pregler'/‘Osttiroler Pregler. It will be added to the list of 256 spirit drinks already protected in the eAmbrosia database. More information online on quality schemes.
