#Taiwan Momentum needed for Taiwan-EU trade talks to proceed

EU-Taiwan-Free-Trade-Agreement-680x365According to Madeleine Majorenko, Head of the EETO in Taipei, continuous momentum regarding a bilateral investment agreement between Taiwan and the European Union is essential for talks to proceed.

Last October, the European Commission said it will explore launching negotiations on investment with Taiwan as part of a trade globalization plan. The EU has entered a preparatory phase for such talks, she said, adding that during this period, the two sides will express their respective ambitions and commitments. While there is no timetable for when formal negotiations could start, Majorenko said that the more comprehensive the preparatory phase is, the smoother the trade negotiations will be. Sharing her view about Taiwan-EU relations, she also offered congratulations to President-elect Tsai Ing-wen, adding that the way the elections were run was impressive.
