Place du Luxembourg protest against tax havens
Today (10 April) 20 Danes from Socialistisk Folkeparti, the youth organization of the red-green party in Denmark, protested against tax havens at Place du Luxembourg in Brussels.
The young activists dressed like businessmen and had inflatable palm trees, music, signs, lots of champagne and a banner saying 'Welcome to Tax Haven'.
EU Reporter met their Chairman Carl Valentin (pictured, left) and he had a clear message for MEP’s: “We want the MEP’s to make stronger regulations, to stop rich people and huge companies from putting their money into tax havens.
“Tax evasion is an extreme problem in Europe and it costs the average European €2,000 every year. The politicians have the power to stop it – all they have to do is use that power!”
The Danes were in Brussels to see the Parliament and attend a conference with young members of the Green Party.
“In Denmark, huge Companies like Burger King, Coca Cola and Q8 don’t pay taxes at all. That’s not fair! Everybody has to pay their fair share, that’s why we are here today,” Valentin added.
When the Danes arrived, no one was sitting in their 'haven' at Place du Luxembourg, but when they left around 50 people had joined them in the good weather.
