Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis is hosting the first Implementation Dialogue on European official statistics — “Towards relevant, simplified and cost-efficient European official statistics” — which has been co-organized by Eurostat.

Launched in spring 2025, the Implementation Dialogues are high-level consultations led by the Commissioners to gather stakeholder feedback on simplifying and improving the implementation of EU laws and policies to enhance European competitiveness. The outcomes of the Implementation Dialogues are shared publicly.

13 representatives of European business federations and businesses as well as national statistical institutes are participating in the Implementation Dialogue on European official statistics. The event is providing a high-level platform for them to discuss challenges and opportunities related to reducing statistical reporting burdens while maintaining the quality and relevance of European official statistics.

This Implementation Dialogue is focusing on 3 main areas covered in 2 sessions: how to simplify statistical reporting in the EU; how to seize the opportunities for reusing existing data sources – both administrative and privately held data – and leveraging digital technologies, as foreseen in the recently revised Regulation No 223/2009; and how to meet the evolving data needs of businesses in a fast-changing world.

The Implementation Dialogue on European official statistics is being opened by Commissioner Dombrovskis. The sessions are being introduced with presentations by Eurostat’s Director-General Mariana Kotzeva, who is highlighting Eurostat’s plans to simplify reporting and reduce the burden on businesses by leveraging the opportunities for reusing already collected data in the compilation of European statistics.

The outcomes of this Implementation Dialogue will guide Eurostat in prioritising future data collections and innovation efforts, thereby furthering our mission to provide relevant, timely, and cost-efficient statistics for EU policymakers, businesses, and citizens.
