A cloud of smoke rises over Gaza in the wake of the air strike (Archive)In response to numerous rockets and mortars attacks fired from Gaza into Israel in the past 24 hours, the Israel Air Force (IAF) struck two concealed rocket launchers in the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced.  Direct hits were confirmed, the Israeli army said.

Residents in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council and in Israeli communities in the Gaza belt reported hearing several explosions, as four rockets were fired by Gaza terrorists at southern Israel.  Monday morning, one rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome Missile Defense System above the city of Ashkelon.

On Sunday (27 October), two mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Israel near the security fence in the Southern Gaza Strip.  IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said: “This targeted strike, based on IDF intelligence and advanced air force capabilities, is an immediate response to the terrorist aggression and its infrastructure in Gaza. Hamas must take responsibility for these actions or pay the price for inaction.

We will continue to safeguard the civilians of the State of Israel, and prevent future attempts of terrorism formulating in the Gaza Strip.”  Recently, Hamas’ “military wing” has admitted to being behind an attempted attack involving a ‘’terror tunnel’’ leading from Gaza to Israeli kibbutz Yad Mordechai. The Islamist group admitted that the tunnel was to be used to kidnap Israeli soldiers.
