The European Parliament opens its doors to the public in Strasbourg on Sunday 4 May on the eve of the European elections later this month. Find out more about how the Parliament functions, and also meet the political groups and to take part in debates in the Parliamentary chamber. Don’t miss this chance for a peek behind-the-scenes of the EU’s only directly elected institution.
Activities take place from 10-18h CET. Meet MEPs and join the debate on the upcoming European elections in the Parliamentary chamber.
The open day is also an opportunity to check out the information stands by the political groups and the different Parliament departments, but also to find out more about the other European institutions, such as the ombudsman, the European Central Bank, the Court of Justice, as well as various French-German associations.
Visitors will be given a 'passport' for the day that will allow them to take part in everything. In addition there will be activities outside the building to give your ears and taste buds a treat. Finally, the French post office will be issuing a special first-day version of its Europe 2014 stamp.
The open day is held in the run up to Europe Day, which is celebrated every year on 9 May. The event will also pay tribute to Greece and Italy, the two countries in charge of the rotating EU presidency this year.
