Gaza’s reconstruction 'more than urgent' says S&D
Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament have gladly welcomed the outcome of yesterday’s (13 October) Donors Conference in Cairo.
S&D MEP and vice-president for foreign affairs Victor Boştinaru said: "The tragic 50-day conflict between Israel and Hamas earlier this year resulted in the destruction of most of Gaza's infrastructure and a large number of Palestinians lost their homes.
"The pledge of $5.4 billion in aid is an excellent outcome and this money is necessary to improve the difficult living conditions in Gaza and to give hope to people for the future. This is a significant sign of solidarity from the international community to the Palestinian people."
“The EU must increase its engagement in the negotiation and reconstruction process, along with all the other regional and international parties involved.
“We call on both sides to take this opportunity to further advance the talks towards a comprehensive agreement."
