VSO gets European Commission certification as a high-quality volunteer sending organization
As part of the European Commission Certification Mechanism under the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, VSO International has been certified as a volunteer sending organization for the first time. VSO is the world’s leading independent international development organization that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries. The certification is part of a process to identify organizations to run the proposed EU Aid Volunteers Initiative through DG ECHO.
In awarding the certification, the Commission stated: "VSO has handed a properly completed application with all required pieces of evidence. The additional documents provided by VSO, particularly the Volunteer Management Framework, provide a good insight into the volunteer life cycle management and at the same time define indicators on how to measure the compliance with the standards’ requirements."
Dr. Philip Goodwin, CEO of VSO said: “This is a great achievement and, above all, an important recognition and appreciation of the quality of VSO’s volunteer management approach as the VSO Volunteer Management Framework was singled out by the Commission as an excellent example of this.”
