2013-05-28-werner-hoyerCatching up with President Werner Hoyer (pictured) of the European Investment Bank at COP21: What are the chances of a good deal on climate change according to the head of the world's biggest provider of climate funds? And what role does the EIB have to play? Watch the interview here.

The European Investment Bank is the world’s largest lender for renewable energy and climate related investment, and owned directly by the 28 European Union member states.

The European Investment Bank expects to provide a total of €100 billion for investment in climate projects over the next five years around the world.

Earlier this year the EIB announced a new climate lending strategy and agreed that 35% of future lending in countries most vulnerable to climate change will support climate related projects.

The EIB’s climate finance combines large scale support for traditional infrastructure investment and more innovative lending through climate funds and support for cutting edge projects where the EIB’s due diligence helps to reassure other investors.

The EIB is also one of the largest issuers of Green Bonds and has played a leading role to ensure that institutional investors can support climate finance.

During COP 21 the EIB will make a number of announcements concerning climate projects and related initiatives.
