After the recent Grenfell Tower tragedy in the United Kingdom, the European Parliament is to discuss for the very first time fire safety in buildings at a meeting where both the Council and the European Commission will speak. This important meeting will take place in Strasbourg on Wednesday 13 September 2017, writes Gary Cartwright.

Fire Safe Europe, a European alliance which aims to raise the profile of fire safety in buildings, has launched a Europe-wide petition in advance of the debate calling on the European Commission to legislate for a fire safety strategy.

There are at least 5,000 fire incidents each day in the EU, & each year in Europe approximately 70,000 people are admitted to hospitals with severe fire related injuries. Firefighters are especially heavily impacted.

EU Reporter is proud to support this important initiative.

The petition can be signed online here.
