On 2 May 2018, the Commission will propose the next long-term budget for the EU – the Multiannual Financial Framework or 'MFF' - after 2020.

The future budget is part and parcel of the debate on the Future of Europe launched by the Commission White Paper on the future of Europe on 1 March 2017 and further enriched by the Commission reflection paper on the future of EU finances on 28 June 2017.

Following a first orientation debate on 10 January 2018, and the presentation of the Commission contribution of 14 February to the leaders' meeting on 23 February 2018, the College held another discussion to prepare this important proposal on 28 March.

The European Parliament has also recently adopted two important reports relating to the next long-term budget.
