Italy orders mask wearing for some indoor venues until mid-June
The wearing of face masks in Italy will continue until June 15th, according to the health minister. This is because the country was one of the worst affected by COVID. Roberto Speranza, the Health Minister, stated that masks will be required for access to theatres, cinemas, and indoor events, as well as to enter hospitals. He also said that the government would be careful in lifting any remaining restrictions.
Speranza stated that she had decided to remain in place for a while at least until June 15. This was a precautionary measure that I feel is necessary at this event, which was organized by a union of medical doctors.
It was the first Western country to be affected by the disease. The death toll has reached 163,244, which is the eighth highest worldwide.
Although it saw a decline in infections in April's first half, COVID-19 cases have increased in recent days according to Gimbe, an Italian think tank.
Over 65% of Italians have had a third booster shot, and 84% have already received the two recommended vaccine doses.
