Europe's Beating Cancer Plan: Building an EU network of comprehensive cancer centres

The European Commission is officially launching the EU Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres, one of the Flagship actions of Europe's Beating Cancer Plan. As part of the EU Cancer Plan, this new EU Network will be put in place by 2025 and aim to ensure that 90% of eligible patients have access to such centres by 2030. Announcing the launch and next steps for the EU Network, Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said: “With Europe's Beating Cancer Plan, we have committed to improving the access to high-quality diagnostics, innovative treatments and personalised care for patients across the EU. The EU Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres is part of our commitment to reduce inequalities between Member States help foster collaboration across the EU. We are now starting to deliver and our aim is to have the EU Network in place by 2025, and ensure that 90% of eligible patients have access to such centres by 2030.” By bringing together National Comprehensive Cancer Centres and networks from across the EU, this EU Network will improve access to quality-assured diagnostics and treatments, whilst also supporting actions for improved training, research and clinical trials throughout the EU.
