Upcoming report on the resilience of EU institutions during the COVID-19 crisis

On Thursday 1 September, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) will publish a special report on how resiliently the EU institutions have responded to the pandemic crisis.

ABOUT THE TOPIC

In early 2020, the spread of the COVID-19 across the EU forced member states to put in place measures to slow down the rate of infection, including lockdown measures. The EU institutions therefore had to find ways to ensure business continuity while following the legislation in place in their host member states.

ABOUT THE AUDIT

The audit assesses the resilience of the EU institutions: their level of preparedness, how they coped with the COVID-19 pandemic, and what lessons they drew from it. In particular, the auditors examined whether the institutions’ business continuity plans were adapted to the type of disruption caused by a pandemic, allowing them to minimise disruption and fulfil their roles assigned under the Treaties. The audit covers four EU institutions: the European Parliament, the Council, the European Commission, and the Court of Justice of the EU.

The report and press release will be published on the ECA website at 5pm CET on Thursday 1 September.
