Informal European Council and bilateral meetings with President Barroso
President Barroso will this evening (27 May) attend the Informal European Council. The meeting of the heads of states and government will discuss the results of the European Parliament's elections and the latest developments in Ukraine following the presidential elections. President Barroso called Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk yesterday, to congratulate them on the orderly and successful conduct of the elections that took place in challenging circumstances.
In the context of the Informal European Council, President Barroso has met Latvian Prime Minister Straujuma earlier today, to discuss the energy situation in eastern Europe. This afternoon, President Barroso will meet Bulgarian Prime Minister Oresharski to discuss the same issues.
