MEPs will debate recent developments in Syria, including the Russia-US brokered ceasefire which came into force on 27 February, with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on Tuesday (8 March) afternoon. The UN-led peace talks are scheduled to take place in Geneva on 9 March.

Since 2011, the conflict in Syria has cost more than 250,000 lives and over 4 million Syrians have been forced to seek shelter abroad, mostly in neighbouring countries. Slightly more than 10% of them are seeking safety in Europe.
