Antonio TajaniThe Secretary General of the European People's Party (EPP) Antonio López-Istúriz MEP has said that the election of Antonio Tajani (pictured) as the new president of the European Parliament is excellent news for the institution, for Europe and for all Europeans.
“Today's victory of Antonio Tajani is also a triumph for the European Parliament. From now on, the Eurochamber will have a president of consensus and dialogue who will restore its stability and institutional role,” said López-Istúriz.
The EPP's secretary-general has described the new president as “serious and responsible, a loyal person” and has reassured citizens that Tajani “will be an excellent president, the leader that Europe needs, especially in these decisive times for its future”.
López-Istúriz emphasized “the proven track record” the new president has shown “in his more than 20 years of political service, demonstrating a deep knowledge of the EU, its idiosyncrasy and its citizens”.
“We must remember that Antonio Tajani served as vice president of the European Commission for 7 years and has also served as the EP's most-voted vice-president. In both positions, he has developed an outstanding record”, stressed the Secretary General of the EPP.
“I also want to send my warm personal congratulations to my friend and colleague at the European Parliament, as well as in the EPP, where he also holds the post of vice president”, he said.
