2021 Gender Equality Index: Europe has made little progress since last year
The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has published the results of its annual Gender Equality Index. Overall, the EU scored 68 points out of 100, which is an increase of just 0.6 points since last year's edition. EIGE's Index also reveals big variations in gender equality scores between countries, ranging from 83.9 points in Sweden to 52.6 points in Greece. This year's index focused on mental, sexual and reproductive health. Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli said: “Equal access to good quality health services, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, allows women and men, in all their diversity, to live a full and active life in society.” The EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 sets out the Commission's current priorities in this field, in line with its commitment to achieving a Union of Equality. More information about this work is available here. EIGE's press release on the 2021 Gender Equality Index is available here.
