Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders (pictured) participated in the 46th Global Privacy Assembly Annual Meeting on the Channel Island of Jersey. The Assembly is the largest global forum for data protection and privacy authorities, bringing together representatives of 130 data authorities worldwide, as well as representatives from governments, civil society, the business community and academia.

Commissioner Reynders delivered a keynote speech at the Global Privacy Awards Ceremony, where he will advocate for the convergence of global data protection standards as a basis for trusted data flows, address the interplay between privacy and other digital regulations, and stress the importance of the role of data protection and privacy authorities in preserving a human-centric approach to the digital transformation.

Commissioner Reynders delivered welcome remarks to open the session with Data Protection Authorities, reflecting on achievements and future perspectives on international cooperation in the field of privacy and data protection. In the margins of the Assembly, the Commissioner will meet with the heads of the Brazilian, Kenyan and Korean privacy authorities to discuss progress in the negotiations with these countries on free and safe data flows.  A joint press statement between Commissioner Reynders and Haksoo Ko, Chairperson of Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission, will be published here after the meeting.

More information on the Commission’s work on the international dimension of data protection is also available.
