MEPs there should be no money without respect for the Rule of Law
Following the European Council's successful negotiation on the future budget and recovery fund, the European Parliament organised an extraordinary plenary to reply to the Council proposal. One of the parliament's main concerns is the potential weakening of the rule of law. In the view of MEPs the European Council significantly weakened the efforts of the Commission and Parliament to uphold the rule of law, fundamental rights and democracy in the framework of the EU's budget and the recovery plan.
