Manfred WEBERWhere does the EEP - the Parliament's largest political group - stand on issues such as Ukraine and economic reforms? The European Commission's Facebook fans enjoyed the opportunity to ask the leader of the group directly when he took part in a chat on their Facebook page on 3 February. Manfred Weber said his group's main goal for this legislative period was boosting growth and creating jobs, while he also urged people to support the European Commission's new investment package for Europe.

Many chat participants asked about economic issues, which Weber confirmed were very important to the EPP: "We are looking into the future with a reform agenda, and reforms and change is for us hope and future." The German MEP also reiterated his support for the Commission's investment plan: "The most important question is to create growth and jobs. That's why we are in favour of the investment package of Jean-Claude Juncker. And additionally we are convinced that we need structural reforms in the member states to create jobs and growth."

The situation in Ukraine was also brought up, with people asking about the EPP's position on it. "We have a democratically elected partner in Kiew, a president and a parliament," replied Weber. " They are trying to build up a democratic future for the Ukraine as a partner for Europe. I think we have to help them. It is not easy to change such a country, but they are on their way."

Weber was also asked about various online issues, such as the right to be forgotten and copyright on the web.  He said he welcomed the European Court of Justice's decision to guarantee the right to be forgotten and he also stressed that copyright should still be respected on the internet.

The chat was the first in a series with the leaders of the EP’s political groups.
