Taiwan joins Enterprise Europe Network
The Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium welcomes the announcement from the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW of the European Commission), regarding Taiwan’s accession to the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN). The Taipei Representative Office believes that EEN Taiwan will significantly deepen EU-Taiwan economic relations.
EEN Taiwan greatly increases EU companies’ visibility in Asia
EEN Taiwan will cover 300,000 local enterprises, representing 90% of Taiwan’s EE and ICT manufacturers, allowing it to serve as an inclusive platform to strengthen EU-Taiwan SME cooperation. As a result, business and industry from both sides can exchange information and technology more effectively and efficiently, and EU companies will enjoy more exposure to Asia-Pacific market opportunities, and to potential industry partners, both in Europe and in Taiwan.
Taiwan’s growth potential tops neighbouring economies
Taiwan has regained its top place among the ‘Asian tigers’, with an economic growth rate of 3.51% in 2014 and with Taiwan-EU trade valued at €40bn last year. Taiwan has an advanced economy, in which SMEs are particularly prevalent, and a market of 23 million consumers with high purchasing power. It plays a leading role in technology industries, particularly in the global ICT value chain, and it also serves a springboard for businesses entering the mainland Chinese market. Overall, the EU is the largest foreign direct investor in Taiwan with investment amounting to €30 billion since 1952, but there is still great scope to grow these figures.
The Enterprise Europe Network is designed to support the competitiveness of European SMEs, through business partnering, technology transfer and industrial co-operation.
