#ACPEUAssembly: 'There will be no development without lasting peace and security'
Economic trends, climate change and security will be among the key issues addressed at the 34th ACP-EU joint parliamentary assembly taking place in Haiti on 18-20 December.
Speaking ahead of the summit in Port-au-Prince, ACP-EU joint parliamentary assembly Co-President Louis Michel described the great potential African, Caribbean and Pacific countries have: “They are in possession of extraordinary natural and human resources. The challenge for the years to come will be to combine this tremendous potential with the benefits of the market economy and the virtues of impartial political institutions.”
The plenary session in Port-au-Prince will be preceded on 16 December by meetings of the ACP-EU standing committees.
Among the issues on the agenda are sustainable tourism, the role of natural resources in promoting sustainable development, the fight against infectious diseases, climate change and the situation in Mauritania.
Taking place twice a year, the ACP-EU joint parliamentary assembly brings together MEPs and parliamentarians from 78 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, all of which have signed the Cotonou Agreement.
