Estonian President Alar Karis meets with journalists and e-residents

On 17 May, at Kadriorg Palace in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, Alar Karis held a meeting with foreign journalists on the digital state.

Press representatives, including journalists from Spain, Germany and Brazil, asked questions about cybersecurity and the war in Ukraine. The President's personal preferences regarding multimedia applications and Ukrainian music were not ignored.

The Estonian President devoted part of the meeting to Ukrainian electronic residents. In spite of the war in Ukraine, they are developing and scaling up their business, thanks to the opportunities offered by the e-Residence digital identification program. The Republic of Estonia reimburses state levs to entrepreneurs from Ukraine who decide to become e-residents.

Estonia is the first country in the world to launch e-Residence in 2014. So far, more than 92,000 people have taken advantage of the program.

Alexander Storozhuk, an e-resident of Ukrainian origin and member of the PRNEWS board, took part in the meeting. Summing up the meeting, the Ukrainian entrepreneur noted the value of digital identification for accessing all Estonian public services, without paperwork.

He said there is a demand in the business community in Ukraine to sell goods and services not only in the European Union, but also on global markets. Access to the payment infrastructure helps them support their employees and their families during the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
