Officials said that at least seven people were injured in a suspected gas explosion at a Japanese restaurant located in Tarragona, northeastern Spain, on Sunday (16 October).

According to Pau Ricoma (mayor of Tarragona), the blast occurred at 4pm local ti, when the restaurant was closed.

He said that two people were being passed by and were injured.

Seven people sustained injuries, two of them very serious. All seven were taken to the hospital.

Ricoma stated that although it was not known what caused the explosion, it was almost certain to be gas.
