Ukraine war: 'Mission complete. One additional team member: a kitten called Snake'
Meet Snake, a kitten who has a great war story. The Ukrainian soldier of the special forces who saved him.
The Ukrainian military published images of troops raising the country’s yellow and blue flags over Snake Island in July. It also included photos of soldiers adopting a small black kitten. He was named after the island.
Snake was taken for a walk along the Dnipro River in Kyiv on Friday, two weeks following his rescue. He was then introduced to a small number of reporters. He was saved by a man who told his story.
"In the first phase of the operation we took a photo of the island's terrain with a drone," stated the soldier of special forces. The mask was to hide his identity while the kitten curled up in his arms.
"The commander recognized the small comrade and made it one of his mission objectives to bring him back."
It was difficult to find a kitten on a windy, big island.
The soldier stated, "We thought it would prove difficult, but he found us." "We made a report to the commander after leaving the island, which was: Mission complete, no casualties. Snake, a kitten who is part of the team, was also present.
Snake Island is a legendary place in Ukraine. It was the moment that the Ukrainian garrison, which had been ordered to surrender by Russia's Black Sea Fleet fleet, received an obscenity. This incident was immortalized on a Ukrainian stamp. On the day it was released, the ship was sunk by Ukraine.
Snake is now living in Kyiv. Although the soldier was unable to discuss in detail the kitten's living arrangements, Snake seemed content in his soldier's arms.
"He is now with his loving family. It is all well."
