EU and #China explore circular economy business opportunities

China and EUFrom 21 to 23 November 2016, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella is visiting China to discuss circular economy opportunities.

The 1st EU-China Forum on Circular Economy will take place on 23 November. It will examine how the European Union and China can develop further the growth potential of the circular economy.

Practical examples of eco-innovation, in chemicals and plastic, waste, water management will be on display. Further to the business case for circular economy, the positive impact on marine and urban environments will be highlighted by the organisers.

Commissioner Vella said: "I am delighted to see that our Chinese partners share Europe's enthusiasm for the circular economy. We recognize that promoting the circular economy as a business opportunity will be the foundation of success. It will create jobs, and even identify new sectors. It will also allow us to meet the Sustainable Development Goals."

The EU and China have agreed to develop circular economy projects on water, environment, and the green economy. These commitments come in the same week when the Commission will publish its strategy to achieving its Sustainable Development Goals.
