#Tusk: Donald Tusk re-elected for a second term as President of the European Council

170309TuskWins3The European Council today (9 March) re-elected Donald Tusk as its president for a second term of two-and-a-half years, from 1 June 2017 to 30 November 2019. Donald Tusk was also re-appointed as president of the European Council Summit for the same period. 

Tusk received the backing of 27 member states - notably not his own.

Tusk has been seen as a safe pair of hands during his mandate. He has been conciliatory and non-political in moving the agenda forward.

Jacek Saryusz-Wolski MEP’s cavalier attempt to usurp Tusk was a non-starter and an impressive faux pas by an experienced politician.
