EU-Senegal: 'Revitalised partnership'
Senegalese President Macky Sall praised the European Union as a source of inspiration and hope during a visit to the European Parliament on 9 October. In his speech to MEPs Sall, who has been president since April 2012, also expressed his faith in the benefits of Africa and Europe working together.
Sall stressed the special relationship that existed between the two continents: "There is our shared history, the geographical proximity." He also expressed the wish that "Europe and Africa open a real project of peace and security to build the foundations of a revitalised partnership."
EP president Martin Schulz paid tribute to Senegal: "The country is a strategic partner for the European Union. Senegal makes an important contribution to the stability and peace in this region of the world."
