Chancellor Merkel and President Hollande to jointly address European Parliament
On 7 October Chancellor Merkel and President Hollande will jointly address the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg after accepting an invitation by President Schulz. A previous joint address took place in 1989 with Chancellor Kohl and President Mitterand.
European Parliament President Martin Schulz said: "This is a historic visit for historically difficult times. The EU is facing immense challenges and requires strong commitment by its leaders. It is an important signal that such commitment will be made in front of Europe's democratically elected representatives."
