China-North-KoreaThe government of the Republic of China expresses its concern and strongly condemns North Korea for its nuclear test on 6 January, in contravention of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1718, 1874, and 2094, and in willful disregard of the advice of the international community.

North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test at 10h in Punggye-ri in Gilju County, North Hamyeong Province, with Korean Central Television claiming shortly after that the nation had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb for the first time.

The Chinese government has consistently maintained a position of nuclear non-proliferation in the region, and reiterates that it supports solving the Korean Peninsula issue through peaceful dialogue.

The ROC government also solemnly urges North Korea to take the international community’s expectations and recommendations seriously, abide by the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, refrain from taking any actions harmful to regional security, and cooperate on maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula and in East Asia as a whole.
