#Russia: Verhofstadt organises rock concert for a free Russia
The end of February will mark the first anniversary of the murder of Boris Nemtsov, leader of the liberal opposition in Russia. On that occasion, the ALDE President Guy Verhofstadt, in cooperation with Zhanna Nemtsova, organizes a rock concert on 1 March at 20h00 in the BOZAR in Brussels staring the top Belgian band Vive la fête as well as Russian bands Vasya Oblomov, Centre and Televizor. For security reasons, registration is mandatory at this address.
ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt:
"Boris Nemtsov was a good friend, but most importantly, an incredible source of inspiration. He dedicated his whole life to fight for democracy, freedom and accountability in Russia. It is now vital that we look at the future prospects for a democratic Russia and a stronger relationship between the EU and the Russian people.”
Please note that the set of events will start, from 1:15PM (European Parliament, Room PHS 3C050), with a European launch by Ilya Yashin, a leading figure of the People's Freedom Party of Russia (Parnas), of his report on Ramzan Kadyrov and his implications for Russian security.
Petras Austrevicius, ALDE Vice President will open the event. A light sandwich lunch will be served.
From 2:30PM – the conference on: 'Strengthening Russia's European foundations' will take place (Room PHS 3C050) with opposition leader Mikhail Kasyanov, the daughter of Boris Nemtsov, Zhanna and numerous representatives of Russian democratic opposition and civil society.
