#Cyprus: The solution to the Cyprus problem should be in line with the EU's principles and values

Gianni-Pittella-CY-IBNA-565x282Gianni Pittella, leader of the S&D Group in the European Parliament, will pay an official visit to Cyprus from 22 to 23 March for a series of meetings with the state and political leadership of the country.

In view of this visit, Gianni Pittella stated: "The solution to the Cyprus problem should be in line with the principles and values of the European Union and we consider the ongoing process of talks as a real opportunity for an overall solution to the problem."

Gianni Pittella will be received by the president of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades. He will also meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Giannakis Omirou, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides.

During his stay on the island Gianni Pittella will have separate meetings with the chairmen of the EDEK, Marinos Sizopoulos, and of DIKO, Nikolas Papadopoulos, in the presence of S&D MEPs Demetris Papadakis and Costas Mavrides.

S&D leader Gianni Pittella will also meet with Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, and the leader of the Republican Turkish Party, Mehmet Ali Talat.
