The Open Dialog Foundation (ODF) calls on all EU member states to support the introduction of "targeted sanctions against individuals responsible for the unlawful kidnapping, persecution and detention of Nadiya Savchenko". The Ukrainian woman (pictured), a politician and pilot, is since 2014 imprisoned in Russia.

During last week's plenary session in Strasbourg, upon an initiative of a Lithuanian MEP Petras Austrevicius, a group of 57 MEPs signed a letter addressed to Federica Mogherini, calling for the introduction of personal sanctions against individuals on the 'Savchenko List'. This 'Savchenko List' was prepared by the Open Dialog Foundation and by Nadiya Savchenko's lawyers.

Representatives of the Russian opposition also supported the call for the ODF drafted 'Savchenko List' during a Free Russia Forum last week, which took place in Vilnius in Lithuania. According to the ODF, the Free Russia Forum has since been receiving threats and might risk repressions, linked to their support of the 'Savchenko List'.

Background information

The Open Dialog Foundation (ODF) has been involved in the support of Nadiya Savchenko since the first weeks of her detention in 2014. The ODF covered the costs of the initial legal assistance in Russia and organised a series of international observation missions to the first hearings in her case. Since the very beginning, they have been strongly calling for the release of the Ukrainian pilot and followed closely all developments in her case.
