The Commission has opened the registrations for the upcoming conference 'Shaping competition policy in the era of digitization', which will take place in Brussels on 17 January 2019. The event will bring together experts to discuss topics such as the role of data and artificial intelligence, the market power of digital platforms and how to preserve digital innovation.

Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager will give the opening speech. Other confirmed speakers include Commissioner for Digital Economy Mariya Gabriel and Nobel laureate Jean Tirole. The list of speakers also includes the three Special Advisers on digitization appointed by Commissioner Vestager earlier this year: Professors Heike Schweitzer and Jacques Crémer, and Assistant Professor Yves-Alexandre de Montjoye. The conference and the report from the Special Advisers are designed to provide input to the Commission's ongoing reflection process about how competition policy can best serve European consumers in a fast-changing world. Registration will be open on the conference's webpage until 30 November.
