Annual travel fair arrives in #Brussels
Are the never-ending grey skies getting you down? If so, that would be understandable but the good news is that the (near) perfect antidote to the winter gloom is available this weekend in Brussels, writes Martin Banks.
It comes in the shape of the city’s annual travel fair which runs from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 February, from 10-18h, in Brussels Expo.
A fair for lovers of holidays and travelling, the hugely popular event is spread across 3 halls of Brussels Expo with more than 800 exhibitors taking visitors on a discovery of everything from unknown places and beautiful locations nearer home to ong haul adventures and new city trips.
The event showcases products and provides consumers with a great opportunity to meet travel industry representatives that showcase a wide array of destinations from a relaxed getaway to an exotic retreat.
Entry is just a few euros and the venue is easy to access, via car or metro, from central Brussels.
Among the many stalls promoting destinations is one for Taiwan, a country sometimes overlooked on people’s travel plans.
To many, Taiwan is synonymous with microchips and manufacturing; an Asian economic powerhouse. But there’s another Taiwan to discover: the Taiwan of soaring mountains, verdant valleys, crystal waters, dazzling culture, delicious cuisine, and amazing holidays to suit every taste and budget. The Sunday Times newspaper included it among its best holiday destinations for 2020.
Taiwan’s booth this year comes in the form of a giant train leaving a station – a nod to this year’s theme of adventure and a fun re-creation of Taiwan’s famous Alishan mountain train. Children can pose for a photo-op in the front cab, while the carriage hides a free VR experience, giving visitors a sneak preview of the island in full 3D.
In addition, this year promises a variety of cultural treats including performances on the sheng – a traditional Chinese instrument – and delicious tea, whisky and pineapple cakes from Taiwan.Visitors can enjoy these delights from Ilha Formosa, the beautiful island, and find out what Taiwan has to offer.
