#France: Polls give Macron a massive lead over Le Pen
An Ifop poll shows Macron catching up with Le Pen in the first round of voting and winning by a large margin in the second round. Other polls appear to mirror this and show that the French strongly support remaining in the eurozone.
Macron's surge is attributed to his backing from Francois Bayrou, who has pulled out of the presidential race and on the questions concerning Fillon's generous employment of family members in the so-called Penelopegate scandal.
Fillon apologised for how this was perceived, but also defended the employment of family members as legal. However questions remain not just on possible nepotism, but on whether relatives actually did the work described. It is thought that Fillon's problems have also assisted Marine Le Pen with a 2% rise in the polls.
