EU lifts Mugabe travel ban
Catherine Bearder MEP (pictured): "EU must not weaken push for political reform in Zimbabwe"
Today the European Commission announced that the EU will lift its travel ban on Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe while he serves as chairman of the African Union for the next year.
Liberal Democrat MEP Catherine Bearder, who sits on the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, commented:
"We cannot allow this appointment to weaken the push for political reform in Zimbabwe.
"The EU must continue to put human rights centre-stage in its dialogue with African countries."
