Father and son missing as floods hit northern Albania
A father and son went missing in Albania after their car was swept into a stream during heavy rains.
Police said that a girl, who was in the car at the time it was caught by a stream of water, managed to escape.
"The flow of water took away the girl's brother and father, and police are working with police to find them," Albania's police said on Facebook. It also showed rescuers trying get the car out.
Due to flood danger, some schools were closed and the Albanian emergency services began to evacuate residents near Shkoder.
Albania, which depends on hydropower for all of its electricity, was hit hard by a drought in 2022. The government had to import more power.
KESH, a state-owned utility that produces power, said that the rains of the past 24 hours had been filling its reservoirs. However, it also needed to release more water to maintain two of its dams.
While the floods also affected neighboring Kosovo, there were no reports of any deaths or damage.
