Foreign Minister Wu hosts Baltic parliamentarian delegation
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to enhancing relations with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania based on the shared values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, 29 November, as he hosted a luncheon for a 10-member parliamentarian delegation from the Baltic states. Describing the countries as serving as an inspirational example, Minister Wu noted that Taiwan and these EU member states share the same democratic development path.
Wu also expressed that the government looks forward to expanding cooperation and exchanges with all three countries in the future. Responding to Wu’s remarks, chair of the Taiwan friendship group in Lithuania, Matas Maldeikis, stated that the people of the Baltics stand shoulder to shoulder with Taiwan on the right side of history. Maldeikis further praised Taiwan’s great resilience and resolution in the face of intimidation from authoritarianism, and added that the delegation was deeply impressed by the country’s thriving civic society.
