Maros Sefcovic

Following today’s (1 February) discussions in the College of Commissioners Vice President Maroš Šefčovič said there was growing anxiety among Commissioners on how recent and announced steps by the US will affect the transatlantic relationship.

The Commission has been overwhelmed by calls from different parts of the world to continue to provide leadership based on law, shared values and multilateral organizations.

Šefčovič said we have to make choices about the world we want to live in and we must choose between isolationism, inequality and national egotism on the one hand and openness, equality and strength through solidarity on the other. Europe is an anchor of stability in a changing world, we must choose between regression and the future.

Šefčovič highlighted that together the EU-US create more than 50 million jobs on both sides of the Atlantic. The EU is the highest Foreign Direct Investor, 80% of  total US investments come from the European Union.
