#Albania corruption case reopened – correction.

| February 14, 2018

On 14th February EU Reporter published a story containing allegations against Mr Shkëlzen Berisha, the son of the former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha. These allegations were made by a supposedly reliable source. We now accept that we were misled and that these allegations were totally without foundation. We offer Mr Shkëlzen Berisha our unreserved apology.

Mr Berisha wishes to state the following :

  1. “I have never travelled with Mr.Kalaj to Prague. The evidence, which you allege to be in the court file does not exist. Neither the court file to which you refer, nor the parliamentary commission file contains any evidence for such claim. In fact that has not been mention even in inflated public arguments.
  2. I have never discussed on the issue of the privatization with Czech Utility Company directors, other affiliates of the company, or anybody. The evidence, which you allege to be in the court file does not exist. Neither the court file to which you refer, nor the parliamentary commission file contains any evidence for such claim.
  3. I have never owned a villa. I acquired an apartment on 2013, through a bank loan, which I later sold on 2016. This has been my only real estate. Bear in mind this is public knowledge and can be easily proved by my wealth declaration filed yearly by me, since 2006.
  4. In relation with Gerdec explosion the court didn’t dismiss any charge against me because there weren’t any! For the simple reason that I had no relations with it! There has been a long trial in Albania about Gerdec explosion consuming all judiciary steps, with many convicted, hundreds of testimonies and never did my name came up during all this legal process a single time.
  5. I consider the claim that Mr.Kalaj is my friend, or my associate in any way, false and devoid of evidence. Please note also that, should this article serve as reference to other parties, now or in the future, I will hold the author and the publisher jointly liable for damages and shall undertake the necessary legal actions.”
