There are many cases of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and dementia in Europe among senior population. The reason behind the increased growth of this disease is because of wrong lifestyle followed by elderly. However, with the government taking extra steps to bring down the problem, there is a great chance to decrease the number. Recently, the new e-health platform was being developed by EU-funded HATICE project targets ageing people in EU and to bring down the cases of CVD. Currently, the internet-based intervention is tested through randomized controlled trial in France, Netherland, and Finland. The test is being done on over 2500 individuals who are above 65 age and with the high risk of CVD.

The Trail Goal:

The reason why the new e-health platform is being conducted is to determine if the platform and interaction with nurse can benefit participants by reducing the risk of developing CVD and dementia. The main focus of this trail is to increase the awareness among elderly and constitute it in the lifestyle.

HATICE researchers integrated the guidelines in countries for preventing CVD and comparative analysis of national and European guidelines for primary CVD prevention. The team uses this information to develop the platform lifestyle counseling and relevant settings. In their experiment, they divided individuals in two groups: First group was the one which has access to internet based information via platform where they can know all about lifestyle changes required to curb the risk of CVD and other diseases. Along with this they can also interact with the nurse, get guidelines and can make informed lifestyle changes. Second, group was given a simple platform with the basic information.

According to the Dr Mariagnese Barbera from the University of Eastern Finland, "The possibility of devising common preventive programmes throughout Europe and delivering them through the internet means that we may be able to reach a larger portion of the population in a simpler and cost-effective way. This would improve our chances of better preventing cardiovascular disease and dementia." It will definitely help the elderly to get proper information from a verified source from internet, reduce their physical effort to doctor’s clinic and what’s more they can order prescribed medicines online using codes from Bydiscountcodes.co.uk. So this will not only keep them informed but will also motivate them to adopt a healthy lifestyle as with the help of internet they can reach and get resources delivered easily.

Different setting, one goal:

As per the press release published in Journal of Alzheimer Disease, even though they found cross-country difference in cardiovascular risk, the study will help to define preventive strategies and CVD are applicable internationally. Even though it is a small step but surely in the right direction and will help to curb down the risk of CVD, dementia and other elderly diseases significantly over time. Though it still a long way to go but the experiment showed promising result and is of course pocket-friendly for elderly as they can check the e-platform rather than going for consultation.
