#EuropeanCouncil: EU and Turkey discuss broader proposals
On Monday 7 March 2016, EU leaders held a meeting with Turkey to reinforce their cooperation on the migration and refugee crisis.
EU leaders pushed for the full and speedy implementation of the EU-Turkey action plan, and the reduction of the number of illegal entries from Turkey to Greece.
They also discussed some new proposals to address the crisis. President Tusk was assigned with the task to work out their details before the next European Council.
At its informal meeting, the European Council also agreed to go back to the full application of the Schengen Borders Code in order to bring to an end the irregular flow of migrants along the Western Balkan route and reinforce the humanitarian assistance to refugees.
