Italy reports 53253 coronavirus cases, 90 deaths on Sunday

Italy reported 53.253 COVID-19-related cases Sunday, down from 63.992 the previous day, according to the health ministry. However, 90 deaths were recorded from 112. Since February 2020, Italy has seen 160,748 deaths related to COVID-19. This is the second-highest death toll in Europe, after Britain, and eighth in the world.

The health ministry reported that 352,265 COVID-19 tests were performed in the last day. This is well below the 438,449 results from the previous day.

Patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19, excluding intensive care, saw an increase of 10 038 on Sunday, compared to the 10,023 seen a day before.

On Saturday, there were 39 new admissions into intensive care units compared to 42 on Saturday. From 462, the total number of intensive-care patients rose fractionally, to 465.
