Not everyone is pleased at Vice President Kristalina Georgieva’s decision to resign from her post as member of the European Commission to take up a new responsibility, as of 2 January 2017, as Chief Executive Officer of the World Bank.

Bulgarian MEP Nikolay Barekov told EU Reporter “The German interests and the doddering foreign policy of the Bulgarian government sacrificed the vice chair of the European Commission. The West apparently sees Bulgaria as a potential donor. Bulgarian citizens are soiled by this news and this pathetic farce in which the Bulgarian government nominated on the very last moment two candidates for Secretary General of the UN.”

Barekov was also critical of Bulgarian prime minister Borisov:

“Bulgaria and its lack of stability and democracy will be among the important issues for the EP soon” he said. “Obviously Borisov was played a trick on by his superiors Merkel and Juncker. He was forced to appoint ad- hoc Kristalina Georgieva for the post of UN Secretary General in order to vacate consequently the appetising portfolio for Oettinger and Germany.

Apparently, the thoughts of the Bulgarian Prime Minister were to castle Georgieva-Plevneliev (former president) and to set himself free from his intra-political rivals. Bulgaria is threatened currently to lose its prestige position in the European Commission or even to remain without.

The Bulgarian prime minister is like a ball at the feet of European politicians. Borisov''s ship in Bulgaria is sinking and the West mercilessness sends him to hell.”
